College report 2018


Dr.P.T.Jose has been appointed as the principal of St.Joseph’s Arts and Science College Pavaratty. After 33 years of services he had retired from the post as the HOD of Commerce department at St.Aloysius College, Elthuruth. He also rendered his services as NCC programme officer for 25 years at St.Aloysius College, Elthuruth. Further he held the post as the member of Calicut University Board of studies and the University Admission Nodal officer as well. He never sat idle and discharged his services as the discipline committee conven6r, the returning officer, management committee member, University exam chief superintendent, PTA committee staff representative, staff secretary, Alumni association secretary, and so on at St. Aloysius College.
He joined as the principal of St.Joseph’s Arts and Science College on April 1st 2017 to render his ability and excellence at St. Josephs’ Arts & Science College, Pavartty. He was also a former student of St.Joseph’s HSS Pavaratty.


All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. So is the case with all. To have a day off from the hectic schedules the teachers and the management went on a staff tour on June 26th 2017.  The pine forest, Kurishumala, Muttakunnu were the places that they visited. The lap of nature rejuvenated them with enormous energy.


Plant a tree, Save the World.
World environment day is an annual campaign run by the United Nations Environment Programme to raise global awareness about environment and nature, to protect the planet Earth.  We students of St. Joseph’s Arts and Science College with a firm motive to lend a hand with the world to protect our Mother Nature celebrated environment day on 5th June 2017 by planting a tree in our college campus.  The programme was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Pinto Pulikodan CMI.  A tree was planted by our chairman MuzammilHussain along with the students.  Our Director Rev. Fr. JijoTheethai and Principal Dr. PT Jose were also a part of this function and enriched us with the importance of clean, green campus thereby becoming a role model for others.  With this view in mind we promise to make our campus environment friendly and by doing our little part we join hands with the world for a better cleaner earth for the future generation.


St.Joseph’s Arts and Science College organized a Mehandi competition on 12/06/2017 in our college auditorium. Almost 15 students participated in the competition.
          The participants were inexhaustibly encouraged and appreciated by other teaching staff of our college. Following students were declared as winners:
1.Dilshana Hassan and Anju Francis bagged the First Prize
2.Binsidha and Misna bagged the second Prize and
3.Shifna and Nimu bagged the Third Prize.
          The result was declared and the certificates were distributed on the same day to the winners and participants. The presence of our Principal Dr.P.T.Jose sir, our director Fr.JijoTheethai and other staff members of our college were present on the precious occasion.


The St.Joseph’s Arts and Science College had organized a short film release on 12/10/2017 in our college auditorium.The short film release was done by film script writer Vashyavachas. He had written screenplays for Malayalam films such as “Thirakalkkappuram”, “Kadha”, “MizhikalSakshi” and so on. ‘NIHARIKA’ the campus short film was an ideal effort of Josephites and an initial outcome of their passion in Art and popular culture. The film portrays the pain of isolation that a teenage girl has to endure after an acid attack that had ruptured her good old days and a comfortable future ahead. Mr. Renjith, Assistant Professor, Malayalam Faculty made the welcome address.The presidential address was rendered by Rev.Fr.JijoTheethai Director of the college. The principal Dr.P.T. Jose sir gave a valuable message at the occasion as well as congratulated the students and staff who had strived to make the film a wonderful work of art. Mr. Arun Francis, staff advisor and MuzammilHussain chairman of the college felicitated in the function. Momento for Participants were handed over by Rev.Fr.JijoTheethai. Edwin George, the director of the short film made the vote of thanks.

Adding one more golden feather upon the fame of our prestigious budding institution, Arogyasenaprogramme was inaugurated by Mr. N. P. Kadhermon, the president of PavarattyGramaPanchayat on 30-06-2017. Almost all the students were present in the inaugural function. Mr.Sherin, Health Inspector Pavaratty had given an awareness talk to the students regarding various health issues we are facing now.The students were given a general awareness of the need for hygienity which is essential to ward off several serious diseases spread by the mosquitoes like dengue, chickengunia, malaria, etc. After the class students were split into groups and were taken for the Arogyasenaprogramme. They visited many houses and various places at pavarattyin connection with this programme.


“Reading maketh a man”- says Bacon. With an aim to instill in the young minds the habit of reading and prune them into formidable citizens of tomorrow, our college has started the literary club. It was inaugurated by Sri MuraliPerunelly, the honourable MLA of Manalur constituency on 10/07/2017 Monday at 10:30 am. Fr.JijoTheethai, Director of the College, Principal Dr. P.T.Jose sir,and the MLA lighted the lamp.
HOD of English Department and HODs of English and Malayalam departments rendered felicitation at the occasion. Recitation competition in Hindi, English and Malayalam was held and certificates were given to the winners.
          With a firm motive to inculcate the habit of reading and equip them with the ability and positivity to face the challenges of the world, few activities were introduced:
1. Seminars
2. A synergy of stories and poems
3. College magazine
4. Hand written magazine
5. Short films
The literary club is likely to be coordinated by the HOD of English Department Treasa mam.


“Everyone is new to something
How you develop yourself day by day is the question”
The programmestarted with invocation to the Almighty. The Fresher’s day was conducted on 21-7-2017 at 10.00 am to 3.30pm.The programmewas begun with the traditional lamp lighting by the director of our college Rev.Fr.JijoTheethai. Our principal Dr.P.T.Jose gave the message for the day. The Fresher’s day began their first step to gathering the pearl’s of higher education by invoking the blessings of their Gurus(The H.O.D)of various department. The various cultural programmes were taken place after lunch. The first year students exhibited their talents which were scintillating. All the programmes were mind blowing. It was indeed a day that filled the hearts of both the students and teachers with happiness and welcoming the new buds into the St.Joseph’s garden where they will bloom to beautiful flowers that will bring pride to the college in future.


With a view to impart crucial job skills to the students, the college started two add–on courses; The Communicative English Course & PSC Course. English being a Global language, the Communicative English course aims at enabling the students to enhance their communication skills and grab various golden opportunities that come their way. Thus they can secure an additional certificate along with their regular Degree programmes.
                        The course was inaugurated on 28/08/2017,Monday at 10 a.m. Mrs.Elizabeth Alappat the Academic Administrator of CMI CBSE School Pavaratty inaugurated the course. Mam also rendered an enlightening speech on the importance of English language in this modern era. OurPrincipal &NeenaMaam also made their eloquent deliveries in the meeting. NeenaMaam gave a general outline of the course. It was attended by the students and teachers of the college.
The HOD of Malayalam Department Renjith Sir & the HOD of English Department Mrs.Treasa Mam rendered their felicitations.


Onam Celebration in our college was conducted in a grand way on 30th August 2017. The Director of our college Rev.Fr JijoTheethai was the Chief Guest of the program.
          So many programmes and competitions were conducted like Pukalamalsaram, vadamvalimalsaram,onapattumalsaram ,onasadhyaetc were conducted. All the students enjoyed well.


To familiarize the students about the rights, responsibilities and duties of a citizen, to develop the leadership qualities, teamspirit and positive political attitude among students, to organize the debates and other healthy interactions which make them enlighten for their personal development thereby the nation, to encourage sports, arts and other cultural, recreational activities for enabling the students to evolve as compassionate individuals, the students union was elected on 10thAugust 2017 and the investiture ceremony of the union members was conducted on – August 1017.

St. Joseph’s Arts and Science College, Pavaratty has taken a step ahead in sharing their views regarding various issues faced by the society as well as by the teenage group. As part of this social commitment students of the college made an awareness rally on August 11th through the streets of Pavaraty to enhance the danger and disaster of various drugs and other alcohols. This Anti- Drug day has begun with an awareness class by the Sub Inspector of Police, Pavaratty as well as various messages regarding the same were shared by the Principal and Director of the College.


The Union inauguration at St.Joseph’s Arts and Science College was held on 28/09/2017 from 9.30am to 4pm. The chief guest of the day was “Angamaly Diaries” fame Marshal Tito Wilson(UklambhuRajan). Nijo Davis our newly elected chairman from 2017-18 rendered the welcome speech. The presidential address was given by our director Rev.Fr.JijoTheethai ;our principal Dr.P.T.Jose sir motivated and inspired us all with his enlightening message . The PTA president ShajahanPeruvallur, Arun Francis, our union advisor and faculty of the English department Treasa Mam ,  Liji John the staff secretary  and faculty of commerce department, Mohan M.S. our office superintendent rendered felicitations. Krishna Prasad 1st year B.com cooperation, General Secretary of our college was accorded the duty of vote of thanks. It was followed by various cultural programmes that made the students dance to the movements. The programme concluded with a photo session and the National Anthem.

            With a motive to prepare the students of St. Joseph’s arts and science college to tread the path of success, our college conducted exams to measure the memory skill of the students; their understanding, their Learning skill and growth and to prepare them to face the herculean university exam. The university exams for the fourth semester B.com were held in the college from 16/06/2017 to 22/06/2017. The exams were well co-ordinated and supervised explicitly well under the able hands of the exam co-ordinators Mrs. Minimol M.J and Mrs. Shereena John (faculities of commerce dept).The first and second internals were also conducted by the college for various semesters.

A significant improvement can be seen in the performance of the students. This change is clearly visible for they are more confident and motivated to learn and enrich their knowledge. The university exam fear has diminished and they are all set to face the exam and come out with flying colors.


The birthday of our state, the Kerala Piravi (Nov 1st) was celebrated by the college. The venue was the Angel Park, a recreational park adjacent to the campus. The programmes were celebrated with pomp and splendor.  Father JijoTheethai the director of the college and Dr. P.T.Jose, the principal were present in the function. Competitions like MalayaliManka and Mannan was the highlight of the day. Dames and young men dressed in Kerala attire stole the attention of the show. The programme coordinator Treasa mam rendered the vote of thanks.


Manuscript magazine competition was conducted on December 8th, 2017. Students co-operatively participated in the competition exhibiting their talents and creativity. Each magazine was unique and brilliant piece of work.

A seminar was conducted for English department students by Mrs.JulieDominic, HOD, Department of English, Little Flower College, Guruvayur. She is an august person and literary exponent who had added many feathers in her thrust areas of literature. It was really an enlightening programme. She shared her views on writing in language and literature. It helped the students to present their dissertation in a fruitful manner.She gave a thorough idea and description on how to create documentation with detailed information.
                  On September 20th 2017 Department of Commerce department had conducted an orientation class for the students to do their dissertation in a fruitful manner. Dr. P. A Dhamodharan sir, Former Head of the Department of  Commerce, Sreekrishna College Guruvayoor has rendered a thought provoking section there by motivated the students for an effective presentation.


The students of our college visited Sneharamat Manalur on 27/10/2017. We were given a warm welcome by the children of Sneharam. The students from our college also conducted various programmes to entertain them. We presented sweets and treats to the children and they were very happy. These gifted children with all their bodily limitations awed us with their performance thus teaching us a lesson that “life is challenging” and can be overcome if we “set our hearts to it”.


The first best study trip of St. Joseph’s Arts and Science College had conducted from November 27th to 31st, 2017. The destination was Chikmagloor and Coorg. Beyond academic achievements and knowledge to become a better person it is inevitable to know about the world around him. Study trips are conducted in order to inculcate the knowledge about this unknown world, sometimes to delve into the past of one’s homeland, or to touch the untouched cultures and rituals of another world as it goes on. This three- day trip had offered a new realm of experience to students- the fun that they had with the water games at Chikmagloor, the second day trucking to various hill spots at Chikmagloor made them got more acquainted with nature and  the Golden Temple, Buddhist Monastery, Bamboo forest and river rafting at Coorg made the trip an unforgettable one.  Togetherness and the warmth of care and love had seasoned the bondage between Josephites.


Good Food can create Good Mood…….
On 8th December 2017 the young chefs of the college fought each other with their unique tastes and secret recipes. As part of the upcoming jingles of Christmas, College Literary and Cultural Club had organized a Christmas Sweet competition. Students from different classes had shown their expertise in the art of cookery.
Dilshana Hassan, IInd year B.com Co- operation got the first place.
ShahinaBasheer and Nimitha of IInd year B.A English & B.com Cooperation shared the second position.
Nouras, Ist year B.A English had won the third position.


We have the credit of being one among the various colleges in the district, in D-Zone competitions conducted at Panampilly Nagar college, Chalakkudy. Nearly 200 students took part in the D-Zone competition for both on-stage and off-stage items conducted on 21st, 25th, 26th, 27th , 2018 .
Gautham won the second position in Calicut University D-Zone Fest of  2018  for classical music.Group items too proved their sparkling talents .


To ensure the quality of learning English department organised a one day seminar and career guidance class on the title ‘Signature retrospection of literature and popular culture’ by Dr. Sanal Raj Professor, St.Thomas College on 14th March ,2018 for the English literature students . Students were given a chance to present their seminar papers and to bring out their abilities.


After ‘Niharikha’ college brings out a new short film named ‘Lopam’ which proves to be the need of hour for our society. Students have so well proved their ability in acting. Final years; Edwin(Director), Prithviraj Ravi(Asst.Director), Fayiz C.R (Actor) Sukruthkrishnan(DOP) needs special mention.


The second years gave a befitting send off party to the senior students of St. Joseph Arts and Science College on  March 28th , 2018 .Teachers gave blessing to the students for their future. The outgoing students had given small token of love to their dearest teachers on that occasion.


St. Joseph Arts and Science College had an unforgettable college day with lot of memories to keep in mind. All the students from three years took part actively in making the day colorful. Calicut University syndicate member                                         Joshy C.L (Associate Prof. Dept. of Chemistry, St. Thomas College, Thrissur ) was the guest for the day. Prize distribution for arts festival competitions was held on the same day.
